Swine Flu Statement
April 30, 2009
This document is also available in WORD | PDF
The Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council (GSCBC), Inc., is carefully monitoring the swine flu issue with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the American Camp Association (ACA) and the Delaware Division of Public Health. We have implemented precautions to protect the health and safety of children and adults attending our camps and programs, as well as staff.
The GSCBC is committed first and foremost to the safety of our girl and adult members. Parents of children attending Camp Grove Point this weekend are being contacted on Thursday, April 30, by the GSCBC to alert them of the issue, provide them with health tips, and advise them of the safety information and procedures that we have undertaken. We are advising parents to keep ill children at home, and for all staff, volunteers and parents to stay at home if they are ill.
Among the immediate health protection procedures and resources we have implemented is the placement of hand sanitizers in all eating locations and restrooms in GSCBC office buildings and all camp locations. Clorox wipes and Lysol will be placed in sleeping and restroom locations in all camps today as well.
Upon arrival at all our camps, attendees will receive a briefing on the swine flu issue from camp leaders, who also will advise attendees of important safety precautions and resources at the camp.
We are in regular contact with health care authorities and will post any changes on the situation on our website as we receive them.
Requests for information regarding the swine flu should be directed to the CDC or state and local health officials.
Any questions regarding camp procedures concerning the swine flu should be directed to Janet Berry, Senior Vice President, Program and Property, 302-242-0521. All inquiries from the media should be directed to Liz Farrell, Manager, Communications and Advocacy, 302-544-2688.
