UPDATED GSCB Statement on Swine Flu

June 26, 2009

The Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council (GSCBC), Inc., is carefully monitoring the swine flu issue with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the American Camp Association (ACA) and the Delaware Division of Public Health.  We have implemented precautions to protect the health and safety of all children and adults attending our camps.

The GSCBC is committed first and foremost to the safety of our girl and adult members.  We provide parents of children attending camps with health tips sanctioned by local/state and national health agencies. We also update parents on the safety information and procedures we have undertaken.  Importantly, we are advising parents to keep ill children at home, and for all staff, volunteers and parents to stay at home if they are ill.

Among the immediate health protection procedures and resources we have implemented is the placement of hand sanitizers in all eating locations and restrooms in GSCBC office buildings and camps. The GSCBC also has placed Clorox wipes and Lysol in sleeping and restroom locations at every camp.

Upon arrival at all our camps, attendees receive a briefing on the swine flu issue from camp leaders, who advise campers of important safety precautions and resources at the camp.

We have posted an Alert on the Home Page of our website (www.gscb.org) and are in regular contact with health care authorities.  We will post any changes on the situation on our website as soon as we learn of them.

Requests for information regarding the swine flu should be directed to the CDC or local/state health officials.

Any questions regarding camp procedures concerning the swine flu should be directed to Janet Berry, Senior Vice President, Program and Property, 302-242-0521. All inquiries from the media should be directed to Liz Farrell, Manager, Communications and Advocacy, 302-544-2688.
