Operation "Taste of Home"
Share a taste of home with our military Troops around the world and to those in need on the Delmarva Peninsula by collecting Cookie donations for Operation Taste of Home. Through a partnership with the USO at Dover Air Force Base Girl Scout Cookies will be sent to our men and women in the Armed Forces. SUs will deliver Cookies to their local charitiy. Girl Scout Troops participating in the 2010 Cookie Program may invite customers to participate in this project by purchasing a box (or boxes) of their favorite Girl Scout Cookies to be sent to Troops far away from home and delivered to local charities.
Operation Taste of Home Donation Receipts (PDF)
Customers may buy any of our Cookie varieties for $3.50 per box and designate their purchase as an Armed Forces donation. This contribution is tax deductible. Customers will not receive the boxes of Cookies they purchase for this patriotic service project, as the USO will deliver the boxes of Cookies to service men and women overseas. The customers’ donations will still benefit Girl Scouts, as girls and Troops will receive full credit toward recognitions and Troop proceeds for all Cookies sold as donations.
It’s this simple:
-
Operation Taste of Home begins on January 9, 2010 and continues through March 7, 2010.
-
Troops will not handle these Cookies. All they do is take orders, collect money and pay for them with their final report. The Cookies will be sent directly from GSCBC, Inc., or the SU.
-
Promote the program with girls, parents, guardians, Troops and volunteers. Help the Troops and girls to develop a plan of action to make Operation Taste of Home part of their selling strategy.
-
When girls take orders, they ask customers if they would like to donate boxes of Cookies for Operation Taste of Home. If the customer wishes to purchase some, they indicate this on the Donate Cookie Package column on the girl order form. Customers do not specify varieties. DO NOT ORDER THESE COOKIES WITH YOUR INITIAL ORDER.
-
Each girl collects the money for their customers orders and Operation Taste of Home when Cookies are delivered. If a customer is only donating the boxes of Cookies to Operation Taste of Home, the girl should collect the money when the Cookies are ordered. When the customer pays for the box(es), the Girl Scout should offer a donation receipt to them. These may be downloaded here.
-
If a customer wants Cookies sent to a specific soldier, they need to purchase them and mail them to the solider of their choice. GSCBC, Inc. does not have any control over where the Cookies are sent once they are delivered to the USO.
-
At booth sales, display a poster and ask customers if they would like to purchase Cookies for Operation Taste of Home. Keep a record of customers’ donations. Booth Sale Donation form may be downloaded here.
-
By March 7, the Troop Cookie Manager needs to receive the number of Operation Taste of Home boxes and the money from the girls.
-
On the Troop Final Report form, Troops should include the total number of boxes (from girl orders and Booth Sales) sold under the Operation Taste of Home column. Cookies which will be taken out of the Troop inventory must be dropped off at either the Newark or Peninsula Resource Center by March 12, 2010.
-
Troops must include payment with their final report. Operation Taste of Home Cookies should be included in the Troop per girl average total.
- Boxes sold for Operation Taste of Home should be counted in the total amount each girl sells for her incentives.
Girls that sell a minimum of 12 boxes of OTH Cookies receive the OTH patch.
