Insect Adventurer

Magnifying glass, net and water trays are tools to explore our field, forest and stream habitats for butterflies, dragonflies, ladybugs and more! Visit with Delaware Nature Society and learn stewardship as we collect, observe & identify the parts of an insect, investigate their amazing special features, and release them unharmed. Discover the connection between insect pollinators and the food we eat.

Letterboxing & Geocaching

Visit the DuPont Environmental Education Center (DEEC) on the Wilmington Riverfront to carve out your own personal stamp and explore the exciting world of letterboxing with Delaware Nature Society. Letterboxing is a unique combination of a treasure hunt, navigation, artistic expression and outdoor exploration. Then try your navigation skills to find a series of letterboxes hidden at DEEC. Experience a more technical treasure hunt with geocaching. Practice using a GPS and search the DEEC Garden for hidden treats.

GSCB has its own Nursing badge! Wesley College Student Nurses Association and Tau Beta Chapter Nursing Honor Society Team, along with GSCB, bring you this fantastic fun-filled day to learn about the challenges and delights of working in the field of nursing.

Solving Mysteries through Chemistry

The Delaware Section of the American Chemical Society will offer a special event for children. This year’s theme is “Solving Mysteries through Chemistry – Explore the Chemistry of Fibers and Forensics”. Scouts will have the opportunity to meet local chemists, perform experiments and activities and see an exciting live chemistry show.

Media Girls

If you’re a Girl Scout who is outgoing, comfortable speaking in front of an audience and LOVE Girl Scouts, then you could be a Media Girl! Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay is launching a new program called Media Girls, giving girls the opportunity to participate in media events and be the “girl face” to deliver the Girl Scout message to our communities. Our Media Girls may be asked to participate in a radio, television or newspaper interview, and participate in social media or blog Girl Takeovers. Girls who are accepted will take part in a specialized media training day and will serve as a Media Girl from January 2017 through December 2017.
Application due by November 18, 2016.

Using Snap Circuits you will explore how electricity is carried and applied to everyday appliances as we build and explore the power of electricity, waves and sounds. By the end of the program you will have a basic understanding how electricity flows and be able to build your very own FM radio using the Snap Circuits.

OMHOn My Honor Ceremony

All Girl Scout grade levels, families and friends

To achieve the Girl Scout Gold, Silver and Bronze Award takes dedication, organization and determination. These awards are not easily achieved and the girls who earn them are to be commended. This special girl-led ceremony will honor the Girl Scouts who have achieved their highest grade level awards. We will also acknowledge the commitment of girls who have been a Girl Scout for 10 and 13 years and graduating seniors. Information about the Take Action projects will be on display. Attendance by honorees, families, friends and the Girl Scout community is encouraged. Cadettes in grade 8 through Ambassadors who are not being honored are eligible to apply for Mistress of Ceremonies. Click here to download the Leadership Application.

Submissions of final reports after the deadline will not be eligible for recognition at this year’s ceremony. They will be honored the following year only if they qualify.

Explore the Fleet at Historic Ships in Baltimore

Come explore the fleet at Historic Ships in Baltimore in the Inner Harbor. Work towards the Old Line State patch and explore the history of the ships and their crew from the 1860s through the 1980s. Girl Scouts who complete the scavenger hunt quiz will receive a commemorative patch.

Join Delaware Nature Society at the Mt. Cuba Astronomical Observatory to use telescopes, binoculars and the naked eye to observe Mars in the western twilight, Jupiter and Virgo just clearing the eastern horizon, the Orion Nebula, and other celestial sights. Learn the secret of the North Star and why some constellations are visible year-round and some only seasonally. Join the ranks of Citizen Astronomers around the world by participating in the GLOBE at Night project to assess light pollution. If it is cloudy we will observe the virtual sky in Mt. Cuba’s planetarium.

Some activities have age restrictions. Lunch is provided.

Who can see bette r, humans or owls? Brownies will get a sensational sensory experience learning about their senses and using them to learn about nature and animals. Brownies will use all their senses to learn about the earth around them.

Visit the DuPont Environmental Education Center (DEEC) on the Wilmington Riverfront to carve out your own personal stamp and explore the exciting world of letterboxing with Delaware Nature Society. Letterboxing is a unique combination of a treasure hunt, navigation, artistic expression and outdoor exploration. Then try your navigation skills to find a series of letterboxes hidden at DEEC. Experience a more technical treasure hunt with geocaching. Practice using a GPS and search the DEEC Garden for hidden treats.
