Butterflies

GS Daisy through Junior
Learn about the wonder of butterflies. Look at actual butterflies under glass to learn about its life cycle, body parts and interesting adaptations that help these defenseless creature survive.

Queen of the Road

Step into what it was like to be a woman driver in 1909 by learning about the historic journey of Alice Ramsey, the first woman to drive an automobile across the United States. Girls will learn about her struggles and accomplishments while touring the Marshall Steam Museum and fulfilling the requirements for their Courageous and Strong petal. Girls finish the program by building a car out of recycled materials to take home.

Girl Scouts are encouraged to visit the Marshall Steam Museum during special Steamin’ Day events to complete their Steamin’ Day Fun Patch. Steamin’ Days are special events held the First Sundays, September through November that include the opportunity to ride in historic automobiles and trains. Patches are earned by completing a specified number of activities (dependent on scout level) in our Scout Activity Booklet. Certain activities can be completed at home with the girls’ troop and family while others must be completed during a visit to one of our public Steamin’ Day events. Scouts must bring their completed Scout Activity Booklet.

Hard Hat Tours

All Girl Scout grade levels, families and friends

Join us for our "hard hat" tours of the future home of Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay. We will have activity stations for Girl Scouts working towards their "Building the Beacon" patch.

The Chesapeake and Delaware Bays are a major area for a variety of life. Learn about the aquatic animals in the bay, and the many shore birds that depend on the life in those bays all while learning about conserving water.

Enjoy an afternoon at the zoo during this special program just for scouts! There will be games, live animal encounters, and other activities all geared toward meeting scout badge requirements. Brandywine Zoo fun patch will be available for purchase.

Girl Scout Punkin Fling and Fall Festival

All Girl Scout grade levels, family and friends

Have a fun family day celebrating the fall season. Bring your home made catapult or trebuchet and compete to fling a pumpkin the farthest. Build a scarecrow and enter it in a contest. Bring a batch of chili for our cook-off or bring your box oven for a dessert bake off. Enjoy archery games, arts and crafts and a bonfire on the beach! Bring a friend! Non- Girl Scouts are welcome.

Beach Clean-Up at the Seashore!

Earn your “Make the World a Better Place” petal by coming to the Delaware Seashore State Park and learning the importance of keeping our beaches clean. Girls will test out their acting skills and take part in a play of “Rosie’s Story.” The troop will participate in a beach clean-up followed by a picnic lunch in the courtyard.
WHEN: October 10, 2015 and May 14, 2016, 10 a.m. – Noon
WHERE: Indian River Life-Saving Station at Delaware Seashore State Park, 25039 Coastal Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
COST: $10 per girl.

Show your Girl Scout pride while taking the Yuletide Tour at Winterthur! See beautiful Christmas decorations and learn a little about historic holiday traditions. The first 50 girls who register and come take the tour in uniform will receive a cool Yuletide at Winterthur patch.

Learn to “be a sister to every Girl Scout” by communicating with others and learning about foreign cultures through technology. You will learn to keep in touch by making a postcard with Publisher or by making Skype calls. You will also learn about other cultures by doing research through Bing.

On My Honor Ceremony

To achieve the Girl Scout Gold, Silver and Bronze Award takes dedication, organization and determination. These awards are not easily achieved and the girls who earn them are to be commended. This special girl-led ceremony will honor the Girl Scouts who have achieved their highest grade level awards. We will also acknowledge the commitment of girls who have been a Girl Scout for 10 and 13 years and graduating seniors. Cadettes in grade 8 through Ambassadors who are not being honored are eligible to apply for Mistress of Ceremonies. Visit our On My Honor Ceremony (OMH) page for additional details. Dont forget to pick up something special for your Girl Scout(s) earning their highest awards!

Explore your world! Grab a passport and travel the world as you visit international displays from Girl Scout troops around the region. Learn about the foods of Central America, the castles of Europe, the unique wildlife of Australia, and much more.

Join the ranks of Citizen Astronomers around the world by participating in the GLOBE at Night project to assess light pollution. If it is cloudy, we will observe the “virtual” sky in Mt. Cuba’s planetarium.
WHEN: March 12, 2016 and April 9, 2016, 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.
WHERE: Mt. Cuba Astronomical Observatory 3915 Hillside Mill Rd., Greenville, DE 19807

Delmarva is home to wondrous plants and animals, especially in a rich habitat like the Pocomoke River. Come explore with an expert naturalist, and connect with the beautiful outdoors!

Daisy Flower Garden Journey

Take a step on your Flower Garden journey during this fun-filled exploration of the Winterthur Garden.
WHEN: April 30, 2016, 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Please arrive by 1 p.m.)

COST: $8 per girl, includes admission for the day.
NOTE: Additional parents and siblings who would like to visit the museum, you will not be participating in the program, must pay the group rate admission ($18 for adults and $8 for children). One adult per troop free. Please wear clothing and shoes appropriate for adventures in the garden. Park in the Visitor Lot and then walk down the path to the Visitor Center to meet for the program. Nature Power! - Cooch-Dayett Mills

GS Daisy through Ambassador
Explore the ins and outs of historic Cooch-Dayett Mills and discover how water generated energy is used to run all its machines. Then harness the ultimate power source – the sun! Observe our star with a specially-filtered telescope, do a solar power experiment, construct a simple sundial, make your own solar print and use a solar oven.
