Earth Day – Ray Street
Girl Scout Daisies through Juniors (Grades K-5)

Join the residents of Ray Street on the campus of the University of Delaware to celebrate Earth Day. Girls will enjoy a brief presentation from Ray Street residents and participate in a sustainable activity. 
WHEN: Saturday, April 26, 2014, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
WHERE: Ray Street Complex, 15 Ray Street, Newark, DE 19717
COST: $5 per girl, includes a fun patch
NOTE: Each girl needs to bring an item to donate for a garage sale.  Min 5/Max 30

 

Queen of the Road: Marshall Steam Museum at Auburn Heights Preserve
Girl Scout Daisies (Grades K-1)

Explore the Marshall Steam Museum and its collection of antique automobiles while learning about the historic journey of Alice Ramsey, the first woman to drive an automobile across the United States in 1909. Learn about her struggles and accomplishments as you work towards your Courageous and Strong petal.
WHEN: April 26, 2014, 10 a.m. – Noon
WHERE: Marshall Steam Museum at Auburn Heights Preserve, 3000 Creek Road, Yorklyn, DE 19736
COST: $11 per girl, includes fun patch.
NOTE: This program completes activities towards the Courageous and Strong petal. Please follow Girl Scout ratio for adult attendance.

Girl Scout Night with the Delmarva Shore Birds
All Girl Scout grade levels and families/friends

WHEN: Saturday, April 26, Scavenger hunts starts at 6 p.m. Girl Scout parade start approximately 6:30 p.m. Game starts at 7:05 PM.
WHERE: Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, Salisbury, MD
Calling all Girl Scouts and Families! Bring your Girl Scout troop out to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium for a baseball game and great fun! Girls will have the opportunity to participate in activities throughout the night. Register 20 or more Girl Scouts to receive special recognition during the game! All Girl Scouts also get to participate in a pregame parade around the field. Audition for an opportunity to perform the national anthem at a game. One troop will also have the chance to present the colors during the anthem if registered by March 21!

COST: $7 per general admission ticket. Includes special participation patch. $6 each for any remaining tickets.

River Rove – Delmarva Discovery Center
Girl Scout Daisies (Grades K-1)

Delmarva is home to wondrous plants and animals, especially in a rich habitat like the Pocomoke River. Explore with an expert naturalist and connect with the outdoors!
WHEN: April 27, 2014, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
WHERE: Delmarva Discovery Center, 2 Market St., Pocomoke City, MD 21851
COST: $12 per girl, includes fun patch.
NOTE: One adult per 5 children will be admitted for free, additional adults pay $8. Dress for the weather and wear close-toed shoes that can get muddy. Bring water bottle. Min 8/Max 15.

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind - Top Notch Karate
Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors

Karate is not just about self-defense. It teaches self-discipline, focus, control, pride and courage while laying a foundation for an active and healthy lifestyle. Join us as we learn about the basics of karate and how exercise, nutrition and lifestyle choices can impact physical and mental health.
WHEN: May 3, 2014, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

WHERE: Top Notch Karate, 35 Liberty Plaza, Newark, DE 19711
COST: $10 per girl, includes fun patch.
NOTE: Participants should dress comfortably for movement and be prepared to work in bare feet on the mats. Meets majority of badge requirements for My Best Self (Brownies) and Staying Fit (Juniors). Min 6/Max 25.

 

Fishing Fun - Cherry Grove Tree Farm
Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors

Enjoy a day experimenting with different baits and techniques to catch pond fish as well as talk with an owner of a Christmas tree farm. Sponsored by the Maryland Saltwater Sport Fishing Association.

WHEN: May 18, 2014, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.*

WHERE: Cherry Grove Tree Farm, 689 Little New York Rd., Rising Sun, MD 21911
COST: $6 per girl, includes fun patch.
NOTE: You may bring a picnic to enjoy at the picnic pavilion. *Feel free to leave earlier if the fish are not biting! Min 10/Max 60.

Nature Power - Cooch-Dayett Mills
Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors

Explore the ins and outs of historic Cooch- Dayett Mills and discover how water generates energy to run all its machines. Then harness the ultimate power source – the sun! Observe our star with a specially-filtered telescope, do a solar power experiment, construct a simple sundial, make your own solar print and use a solar oven.
WHEN: June 7, 2014, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
WHERE: Cooch-Dayett Mills, 904 Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702
COST: $10 per girl, includes fun patch.
NOTE: Activities align with Brownie Wonders of Water and Junior Get Moving Journeys. Min 8/Max 30.

 


Kings of the Beach - St. Jones Reserve, Ted Harvey Location
Girl Scout Daisies (Grades K-1)

Each spring, horseshoe crabs come onto the beach to lay their eggs in the sand. Explore Delaware’s official state marine animal and learn about their importance to the local ecosystem and the scientific community.
WHEN: June 7, 2014, 10 a.m. - Noon
WHERE: 818 Kitts Hummock Rd., Dover, DE 19901
COST: $5 per girl, includes fun patch.
NOTE: Girls must wear shoes that can get wet. Activities support the Between Earth and Sky Journey. Min 8/Max 20.
