Safety Tips
Important
All Girl Scouts may
participate directly in these programs. For the first time (starting
with the 2008 Fall Product Sales Program), Daisies may
participate in Girl Scout Product Sales!
Coordination of each of these Product Sales Programs at the
troop/group level requires hard work and dedication, as well as
sound program management. Council-Sponsored Product Sales Program
activities must be conducted in accordance with Girl Scout
Safety-Wise Standards (12, 30, 31).
Safety is of the utmost importance for girls and adults. The
following guidelines should be followed for personal protection.
- Girls should wear Girl Scout identification when selling cookies.
Girls may wear their uniform, sash, vest, official Girl Scout pins
or Girl Scout T-shirt.
- Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scouts must have an adult
present when they are selling cookies. Cadette, Senior, and
Ambassador Girl
Scouts must use the buddy system.
- Girls should sell only during daylight hours unless accompanied by
an adult when selling at booth sale locations.
- Gils should learn and practice safety protection skills outlined
in their handbooks. For example, do not enter the home of a
stranger. Use safe pedestrian practices. Do not carry large amounts
of money. An adult should know each girl’s whereabouts when she is
selling
- Permission must be obtained from parent/guardian for all girls to
participate at booth sales and the general cookie sale.
 -
NEVER enter a customer's home.
-
NEVER give out names, addresses or telephone numbers of girls to
customers. If it is necessary to give out a telephone number, give
the Troop Leader's telephone number. Girls are given money envelopes
to use during the Cookie Sale to collect money from customers.
Please write the following information on the outside of the
envelope: Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay, 302.456.7150, the FIRST
name and first letter of their last name ONLY, Service Unit/Troop #.
In the event that envelopes are lost customers should contact Girl
Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay to report the lost envelope.
- Safeguards for money collected must be coordinated by adults.
Money must be given to the accompanying or supervising adult
frequently to avoid girls walking around with large sums of cash.
- Selling Girl Scout Cookies is a fun, learning activity for girls,
please help to keep them safe at all times!
