February
23, 2006:
What
is the new normal? What girls say about healthy living may surprise
you. For most girls, being healthy has more to do with appearing
“normal” and feeling accepted than maintaining good diet and
exercise habits.
“In Mind, Body, and Spirit: Keeping Girls Strong”
is the theme for the 2006 Women of Distinction on Tuesday, March
7, 2006 at the Hotel duPont Gold Ballroom. Trisha Meili,
Inspirational Speaker and Author of I am the Central Park Jogger,
will speak to leadership, attitude, and personal growth inspiring
both girls and adults to be strong in mind, body, and spirit.
Champion of girls, Dr. Uma Chowdhry, to be
honored as the 2006 Woman of Distinction. In honoring Dr. Chowdhry,
the Women of Distinction Celebration acknowledges a champion of girl
issues who has made a positive impact on girls throughout our
council and the nation in her commitment to addressing the
stereotypes in math/science/technology. Catherine Kernen,
AstraZeneca Executive Director of Health and Community Alliances,
will present the award. Over 50 outstanding young women will join
Delaware leaders to celebrate the significant contributions made by
women.
In 2005, over 440 business and community leaders
attended the celebration to see Lynn Williams,
preservationist, be honored as a Woman of Distinction in the area of
environmental stewardship. Former New Jersey Governor, Christine
Todd Whitman, delivered the event’s keynote speech regarding the
importance of youth commitment to the environment.
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence,
and character, who make the world a better place. We do that by
providing girls with personal leadership development and programs
that build real life skills for the real world.
