GSCB eNews
May 28, 2008

Following our initial announcement concerning the changes that will be taking place with our eNews, we received valuable feedback from a few of our volunteers and parents.  We want to thank those of you who contacted us for taking the time to write and share your thoughts and concerns with us.  You obviously care very much about this organization and we appreciate your feedback.  We would like to take this time to briefly update you on how and why we came to these conclusions concerning these communications tools.

While analyzing the eNews' effectiveness and use, we discovered that less than 1% (or roughly 1,000) of our entire membership base was actually opening and reading the eNews.  Because less than 1% of our entire Girl Scout family was utilizing the eNews, the vast majority of parents, volunteers and girls were not getting the information they needed to stay informed about upcoming Girl Scout events and activities.

By contrast, we have over 8,000 visits to our website per month, and efforts are being taken to increase that traffic, especially among parents of Girl Scouts.  The information that will be available on the website can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week year round, and can be accessed by virtually any computer, public or private.  Additionally, the Communications department is working hard to revamp the website to be more user friendly, easier to navigate and have the most up-to-date information possible.

Of course, we will continue to send shorter, abbreviated emails to you, reminding you to visit our website, and with specific links that you can click to get important information like registration form, event pages and more.  We also encourage you to make our website www.GSCB.org your homepage, or add us to your Favorites, so that our site will never be more than a click away.

A note to community partners - if you previously listed your organization's upcoming "Girl Scout Days" and patch programs in the e-News, we invite you to consider placing an affordable advertisement in our Council Calendar.  The Calendar is produced annually and is mailed directly to 13,000 Girl Scout families across the region! To find out more about this wonderful targeted marketing opportunity, please contact Denise Eberspeaker at (410) 742-5107 ext. 27.

Thank you for your continued support of Girl Scouts!

Sincerely yours,

Melissa Cox
