Senior Scouts Kaitlyn, Emma, Molly, and Morgan, members of Troops 1338 and 936 of The Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council, joined us at the Coverdale farm Preserve as Volunteers this summer after taking a class at Coverdale Farm as part of their work towards the Locavore Badge.
The girls learned about Coverdale farming practices, including soil management, animal husbandry and vegetable production. They dig in for a better understanding of the importance of soil health to our food systems. They begin to examine how complex and how global food and land issues can be. They harvest vegetables from our Education Garden, and, of course, they work together in our teaching kitchen to create a “farm to table” meal featuring freshly-harvested seasonal dishes.
