Advocacy and Public Policy

Every year, all 112 Girl Scout councils along with Girl Scouts of the USA develop a federal legislative agenda to advance key issues and promote leadership opportunities for girls, including:

 Economic Opportunities for Girls

  • Increase involvement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
  • Strengthen financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills

 Healthy Living Opportunities for Girls

  • Increase access to outdoor activities
  • Reduce bullying and relational aggressive, and foster healthy relationship skills

Global Citizenship and a Global Voice for Girls

A Strong Nonprofit Community and Girl Scout Experience

A similar state legislative agenda is used to initiate dialogue on relevant issues with state public officials in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

At Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay

We have partnered with organizations such as the Delaware Girls Initiative and Delaware After School Alliance to educate local and state officials on the needs of girls. Every spring, GSCB hosts a Delaware Legislative Day at Legislative Hall in Dover. In 2011, Honorary Troop 1912 was created, including all of the female Senators and Representatives in the Delaware General Assembly. GSCB also partners with Girl Scouts of Central Maryland and Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital to host a Maryland Legislative Day in February.
