What is a Moon Tree?
NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement partnered with U.S. Department of
Agriculture Forest Services to fly five species of tree seeds aboard
Artemis I as part of a national STEM Engagement and conservation
education initiative.
What is Artemis I?
Artemis I was the first in a series of increasingly complex missions
that will enable human exploration at the Moon and future missions to Mars.
Mission duration: 25 days, 10 hours, 53 minutes
Total distance traveled: 1.4 million miles

Where is the GSCB Moon Tree located?
The Moon Tree is located near Choptank Lodge at Camp Todd - 25012

How was GSCB selected to receive a Moon Tree?
An open call to NASA’s Artifacts Module in Fall, 2023 welcomed over
1000 organization submissions, which were reviewed and ranked by a
joint USDA Forest Service and NASA panel.
What type of tree is the GSCB Moon Tree?
The Moon Tree is a Loblolly Pine.
Where has the GSCB Moon Tree been?
The Moon Tree was grown from a seed that orbited the Moon during the
Artemis I November 16, 2022–December 11, 2022 mission. After the
flight, Moon Trees were grown in eight United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service facilities, including the six
nurseries that are part of the National Nursery System, two research
facilities, and one state nursery. Our seedling was grown at the Coeur
d’Alene Nursery in Idaho.
Can I visit the GSCB Moon Tree?
Yes! We would love for you to visit our Moon Tree and share your
experiences with us. Visiting our camp property requires a
reservation. There are a few options, pricing varies:
Overnight – stay overnight in a lodge, cabin, or canvas tent
Day Use – a three-hour block visit with building usage (restrictions apply)
Day Pass – a day pass with no access to buildings or units, gives
you access to any of the free-use activities on camp

Anything else I should know about the GSCB Moon Tree?
GSCB staff are working to develop Moon Tree programming that will be
available at Camp Todd.
