August 30th, 2022 (NEWARK, De) — Today, Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council (GSCB) announced their intent to sell four properties to invest in outstanding girl experiences on the Peninsula.
“This plan will help us be good stewards of our resources to ensure that future girls can have access to the same experiences GSCB has provided to the Delmarva Peninsula since 1962,” said Board Chair, Katya Nieburg-Wheeler.
To match today’s membership numbers and combat rising maintenance costs, GSCB plans to sell four properties: Northern Resource Center in Newark, DE, Peninsula Resource Center in Salisbury, MD – two properties that today serve as office space for the 35 council employees, as well as Camp Grove Point in Earleville, MD, and Camp Sandy Pines in Fruitland, MD. A portion of the sales proceeds will be invested in Camp Country Center and Camp Todd as well as provide long-term financial stability for the council.
GSCB CEO, Claudia Peña Porretti said, “These were very difficult decisions, but it is our hope that this plan dedicates GSCB employees to the needs of members, volunteers, and their communities. The investment will provide the resources we need to have a girl-led process that enhances the future Girl Scouts experience while celebrating our traditions.”
With the execution of this plan, GSCB will be able to enhance the offerings at Camp Todd and Camp Country Center – investing in the STEM Lab and premier year-round outdoor experiences as well as be good stewards of the environmental needs at these locations. Camp Todd and Camp Country Center will serve as camps as well as workspaces for GSCB employees.
