October 31th, 2022 [Newark, DE] – On Wednesday, October 26th, Girl Scouts gathered at the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay’s (GSCB) Newark Resource Center in Newark, DE for a special meet-up with GSCB’s CEO, Claudia Peña Porretti. Affectionately titled, ‘Cookies with the CEO’, a select few Girl Scouts were invited to meet Claudia and share their thoughts on the new Girl Scout Cookie, Raspberry Rally, and the upcoming Girl Scout Cookie Program that kicks off December 10th. Among the girls in attendance were GSCB’s ‘Product Program A.C.E.S.’, which stands for Ambition, Creativity, and Entrepreneurial Spirit and represents the top sellers from the Fall Product Program and Girl Scout Cookie Program in the 2021-22 Girl Scout year, and GSCB’s ‘Badge Influencers’, who make up GSCB’s girl media and content creation team.
After settling in, the Girl Scouts got right to the business at hand – taste testing the new addition to the Girl Scout Cookie Lineup, the Raspberry Rally! The thin, crispy cookie is a “sister” to the beloved Thin Mints®, infused with raspberry flavor instead of mint and dipped in the same delicious chocolaty coating. This historic new cookie will be the first in the Girl Scout Cookie lineup to be exclusively offered for online sale and direct shipment only, enhancing girls’ e-commerce sales and entrepreneurial skills.
A few bites in, here’s what they had to say:
“It’s delicious and I love how sweet it is. It’s cool that it’s the sister to the Thin Mint® because they look alike but taste different.” says Girl Scout Junior, Melanie Ginn of Townsend, DE who sold over 2,000 boxes of cookies during last year’s Cookie Program.
“I love how bright the color is on the inside! Pink is my favorite color.” shared Girl Scout Brownie, Elise Burket, of Wilmington.
“They are so yummy! You need to try some!” raved Amira Zogheib, a Girl Scout Junior from Wilmington.
The Raspberry Rally will be available to the public online starting December 10th, while supplies last. Customers looking to try it out will need to connect with a current Girl Scout to purchase online, or reach out to Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay at MemberCare@cbgsc.org to be connected to a participating girl’s site.
‘Cookies with the CEO’ comes at an important time for Girl Scouts – not only is October the first month of the new membership year, but girls across the peninsula are celebrating Girl Scout Founder’s Day today, October 31st. Though beloved Girl Scout Founder Juliette Gordon Low was born on Halloween, there’s nothing spooky or scary about the impact her vision has had on generations of girls since the organization’s founding in 1912.
Olivia Bruno, a Girl Scout Senior and Silver Award Girl Scout in attendance from Smyrna, mentioned: “Girl Scouts allows me to meet new people and go on adventures. I’ve also been able to do a lot of community service projects with Girl Scouts.” Because all proceeds from the Cookie Program stay local, many of those adventures and community service projects for Olivia and her fellow Girl Scouts in Delaware and the eastern shores of Maryland and Virginia are powered by community support of the Girl Scout Cookie Program.
“So many people look forward to the Cookie Program every year, but I’m lucky enough to get a behind-the-scenes look the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of our Girl Scouts as they set their goals, develop the skills to navigate both ecommerce and in-person sales, and ultimately create the Girl Scout experiences that will set them up for success in the future,” says Peña Porretti, Chief Executive Officer for Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay since 2018. “It is a remarkable experience to sit with this group of girls, some of whom have been in the top sellers for our council, and hear about their plans for the upcoming year. Their ambition and excitement is infectious – I’m walking away feeling so energized about what’s in store. I have no doubt all of our Girl Scouts are going to achieve great things this year.”
The countdown is on – less than two months are between the Delmarva Peninsula and the start of the sweetest season of the year, the Girl Scout Cookie Season! Order your favorites or get your hands on the newest flavor – Raspberry Rally – when the program opens online on December 10th or catch your local Girl Scouts out in the community at cookie booths after February 10th.
