(May 5, 2026) - With the support of the CEO Search Committee, the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Board of Directors is excited to welcome transformational nonprofit leader Theresa Young as the organization's next CEO, effective June 8, 2026.
"Theresa brings extensive experience in strategic leadership, nonprofit operations, youth leadership, and fundraising," said GSCB Board Chair Temeka Easter Rice. "Her experience working with volunteers, professionals, various agencies, and businesses across the Delmarva region helped her rise to the top among many qualified candidates. We're thrilled to welcome Theresa back to Girl Scouts from her days as a volunteer, and we are confident she is the best person to lead Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay into its next chapter, carrying forward the work of reimagining our programming, properties, and our Council."
Who is Theresa Young?
Theresa joins Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay from American Red Cross Delmarva Chapter, where she served as executive director for the last 10 years. She also has a deep commitment to serving as a role model to girls through volunteer service in Girl Scouts and coaching girls' sports.
Theresa is known as a high-energy, results-oriented problem solver who has successfully led large-scale organizational strategy across multiple levels of operations, including fiscal and governance oversight, and cross-functional team leadership. She brings more than three decades of combined nonprofit and business experience to the role. As executive director of the Delmarva Red Cross, she led both volunteers and staff in mission-driven organizational goals and drove action in four key areas of volunteer development, fundraising, relationship management, and managing the board towards the growth. She served as a Red Cross liaison to local, state and federal elected officials for disaster responses, and worked closely with internal and external constituents across the Delmarva Peninsula.
Theresa has also held various other roles within the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society that have allowed her to serve many different audiences throughout Delaware and the Eastern Shores of Maryland and Virginia.
As a Girl Scout volunteer, Theresa served Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay as a Service Unit Manager, Troop Leader, and Camp Volunteer Coordinator. An active nature and outdoor enthusiast, she also facilitated zip lining and low ropes course activities. Theresa is also a Girl Scout Lifetime Member.
Theresa and her husband have a blended family of five children, one girl and four boys. She raised her children in scouting programs and the outdoors. "Girl Scouts provided an opportunity for my daughter and me to bond through camps and programming," she said. When her husband and son-in-law joined her family, Theresa quickly got to work "showing them the way" and getting them hooked on camping as well.
What is Next for Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay?
At Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay, Theresa inherits a seasoned nonprofit team that has proven to be adaptable and is poised for success, an engaged membership of over 3,000 Girl Scouts and 2,600 adults, and an active Board of Directors. Theresa will draw from her background of fostering strong relationships, developing collaborative teams, and driving meaningful impact to advance several key components of GSCB's Strategic Plan including membership growth, philanthropic success, and innovative delivery of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience that addresses the interests and needs of today's girls.
Theresa's appointment is effective June 8, 2026. GSCB members should stay tuned for more information about opportunities to meet Theresa in the weeks following.
